The original route<\/h3>\n\n

The earliest documented US 99 alignment in each area. Older Pacific Highway or Ridge Route predecessors will be identified separately when relevant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The changes<\/h3>\n\n

Later reroutings, bypasses, and east\/west branches, with date ranges and evidence for each segment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

03<\/p>\n\n

The final US 99<\/h3>\n\n

The last documented US 99 alignment in each area before its designation was removed. There is no single replacement date for the whole corridor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Evidence comes with the line<\/h2>\n\n

Each future segment will include its location, route or branch, known dates of use, source references, research notes, and confidence level. An uncertain date range will remain a range; an approximate alignment will be marked as approximate.<\/p>\n\n

Planned controls include layer toggles, a date filter, and clickable segment notes. Historic map scans may also be offered as overlays where reuse rights and image quality allow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

From archive to overlay<\/h2>\n\n

Find the evidence.<\/strong> Compare dated highway maps, topographic maps, engineering records, and local histories.<\/p>\n\n

Trace and compare.<\/strong> Match identifiable bridges, street intersections, and other landmarks across map editions.<\/p>\n\n

Review and publish.<\/strong> Check each segment against its sources before adding it to the public map.<\/p>\n\n

A map\u2019s publication date and a road\u2019s opening date are different facts. Both will be recorded when known.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Begin with the map collections<\/h2>\n\n

USGS topoView<\/a> provides access to historical topographic maps. ODOT\u2019s history resources<\/a> point to Oregon highway map collections.<\/p>\n\n

Historical alignment research does not establish present-day public access or road condition.<\/p>\n
